Communication Design

Department of Communication Design was established in 1958. Due to increasing pressures and demands this department was organized into a faculty within which the Departments of Textile Design, Product Design, Communication Design and Ceramic Design offer training in various disciplines. With the constantly growing awareness and importance of the field of design, students are trained to meet with new demands of the market.

After first year in Foundation course, students join major areas of specialization. In second year they are introduced to design theory and technique as well as to develop creative thinking. In third year students continue study in major areas of specialization and fourth or final year ends with a project which is presented as a thesis project.

The Faculty of Design operates a metal workshop, a wood workshop, a ceramic workshop, a textile weaving and printing studio, a photographic and computer labs. in addition to graphic design and basic design studios.

It is necessary to note that students wishing to join Faculty of Design are required to state on their admission forms that which department they would like to major in. The choice of elective subjects is left open until the third year, by that time students have received training in variety of disciplines offered.

Communication Design as an activity and a profession is on the edge of a challenging future. Ecological, ethical, economic and social concerns demand their appropriate Integration with design's traditional focus on aesthetics, form and functional utility.

Achieving this comprehensive goal is becoming more and more dependent on the way in which designers are able to conceive and develop responsible, appropriate and exciting solutions to the many and contemporary design issues.

The dynamic nature of this subject demands an inter-disciplinary approach which transcends the traditional design disciplines. Such an approach requires the education of students who can meet the challenge to be flexible.
