Against the backdrop of rising neo-conservatism and violent religious fanaticism, citizens in Pakistan are faced with threats not only to their lives and security, but also to their politics. The attack on the politics of tolerance is a fundamental threat to the conceptual foundations of peace and democracy, but there is little considered, academically sound response nationally.
In order to address this situation, the National College of Arts, Lahore – in collaboration with the Heinrich Böll Foundation, Germany – has launched a project, Conserving Democracy Through Culture and Education. Housed in NCA’s Department of Communication & Cultural Studies, the project will build on the unique strengths of the College to launch a sound academic discourse on the cultural threats to peace and democracy. The project involves student seminars, research monographs, policy briefs, and an art exhibition on these central themes. Information on and around these activities is updated regularly on this website. Please feel free to contact us for further information.
