One Year Diploma in Sculpture

Sculpture is an artistic practice that involves the creation of a three-dimensional object be it in clay, wood, plastic, marble or any other material. The nature of the transformation of an interesting form or a recognizable object and how its presence extends into space and its environment is what determines the success of a sculptural form.

In Art History, this exploration has led to experiments that have produced timeless works of art therefore sculpture as an art form has the ability to offer possibilities and assimilate new directions.

Sculpture has the ability to reinterpret space; the form and volume that is occupied in space encompasses the viewer with its presence. By doing this, sculpture instantly taps into our sensory faculties in a way that no other medium can. Therefore even the simplest three-dimensional forms, such as the terracota toys of Mohenjodaro or the Dancing Girl from Harrapa fascinate us and have the capacity to hold our interest.

To attain such goals and engage the viewer, it is necessary to have a thorough technical and conceptual understanding of what sculpture is; exploring the latent possibilities within a lump of clay or a piece of wood is not just practice of the eye and hand, the intensive one-year Diploma Programme In Sculpture will train students in the attainment of technical knowledge and techniques in such a manner that it will offer students insight into possibilities inherent within the creation of an object in the round. The one-year Diploma Programme in Sculpture encompasses training in both techniques and aesthetics.
