DEPARTMENT OF
ARCHITECTURE

The Bachelor of Architecture programme aims to train architects for practice and advanced studies, based upon critical thinking, good communication skills, professional competence and ethical conduct.

After the two foundation semesters, the third and fourth semesters focus on basic design principles and skills with emphasis on elements and principles of architectural design. The course introduces design of space and form through the study of basic interrelationships of material, site and programme leading to complex interplay of situation, space and time.

The fifth and sixth semesters are built upon the skills learnt in the previous semesters and add layers of structures, technology and building construction to the programme and architecture design. Further, they start examining the context, its problems and looks at design as a catalyst towards the creation of a better environment. The students at this stage will also be introduced to the issues of sustainability and various related fields of architecture and their role in the design processes.

The seventh and eighth semesters broaden the horizon of study to encompass the issues of city, its built form and the urban culture. This includes the relation of individual buildings to their physical and cultural environment. Topics like regeneration of historic urban centers and housing shall be the main focus

The ninth and tenth semesters are the thesis semesters that focus on independent research on a topic of personal interest and its articulation in the form of a final design project.
